Habakkuk 3:1-2 | In the Middle of the Years

Chapter three opens with a heading. Before you get one word of the prayer, you get a line telling you what kind of thing it is, a prayer of Habakkuk set to victorious music. Somebody filed it. Somebody decided this one gets played.

I have heard of your fame. Heard. He is standing in awe of things he was told about, and that is most of us. Then look at where he plants the request. Renew your work in the middle of the years, not at the end where the books close, but in the middle, the unglamorous stretch where you cannot see the shape of it yet. Nobody writes songs about year nine. And he prays it after God already answered him, and the answer was Babylon. In wrath you remember mercy is a harder prayer than make it stop.

Anchored in Habakkuk 3:1-2. Part of The Waiting Season, a verse-by-verse walk through Habakkuk for worship leaders and the whole team.
